I had an interesting podcast interview this week with a young interviewer from the UK. About halfway through the interview, I had an epiphany about the other side of the political aisle. Not the insane hard Left but the average citizen that is a liberal. As I have been doing several podcast and television interviews each day, I have found myself, several times, being interviewed by a liberal. What is interesting is how they all start the conversation with me prior to making a commitment to having me be a guest on their show.
The first email message always starts with, “The border is an interesting topic that I would love to discuss with you. However, I have opposing views on this topic...”. Further in our conversations it becomes crystal clear that the show’s producer or host has made the determination that anyone that wants to stop illegal immigration and secure the border is Right Wing and will be aggressive in the defense of their beliefs. I reassure the show’s host that, yes, I have strong views, but I am always professional and civil.
The beginning of these podcast interviews with liberal leaning hosts is me giving a quick introduction of my career and then we dive into my book, Invaded, and what my beliefs are in securing the border and protecting America’s sovereignty. The host immediately follows up with a question stating immigrants are great for America and why would I ever want to stop immigrants from coming to our nation. This is where the discussion goes off the rails but in a good way. I answer their question with a question, “To be clear, we are talking about legal immigration, correct?” The host pauses and then answers, “Yes. Legal immigration.” I do not hesitate when I explain that I completely agree with the host and that I find many times legal immigrants are the most patriotic citizens in our nation and that these new citizens add to the greatness of America.
