I need to add that the right to vote and to petition our government for redress of grievances are given to citizens only to ensure our nation continues to be a democratic republic. Those who are not citizens yet are not able to do this because they have not pledged their allegiance to the USA.
Thanks for the history lesson. I knew that there have been regular moratoriums on immigration for centuries, but it always been determined by the President, depending on our needs, and assimilation of the illegal population.
